i stumbled upon the instagram feed of designer beata heuman - and she is awesome. i love the "undecorated" yet totally pulled together vibe of her apartment, pictured above. from her quirky painted bedroom ceiling to the custom chalkboard she had commissioned, you can tell she has really put a lot of heart and soul into her home. after years of working for nicky halsam, she now has her own company - make sure to check out her portfolio here!

actual + aspirational

okkkkkk i'm officially in love with the powers of photoshop and the ladies behind blogshop. i gave my site a facelift, and i put together my first ever moodboard that doesn't look totally cheesy. excuse me while i toot my horn for a second - but i friggin' love this collection of things(!!!). in fact, i love the pillow, table lamp, and paint color so much that i actually brought them into the mix of my own living room, and i couldn't be happier. the pillow is so reminiscent of this chair, no?

if you follow me on instagram, you'll see that i just painted my kitchen peninsula (i have a love/hate relationship with that word) hague blue from farrow and ball. what amazing paint to work with! then, because i had so much free time this week with my boyfriend out of town, i also painted my bedroom door stone blue to match my deck stairs i painted a while back. alas, this painting spree must come to an end before i totally jeopardize the security deposit. ugg. some day i will own a house and then i'm going to paint every wall and ceiling, and nobody is going to stop me! oh, and wallpaper too. can't forget about wallpaper.

pleated lampshades!

drum lampshades are SO over, amiright? ok, probably not. and i currently have two drum lampshades in my apartment, and they aren't going anywhere because they are fine and functional and new-ish. but, i am in need of a small table lamp to go next to my sofa, and i am married to the idea of a beautiful, colorful, pleated lampshade. but these suckers are hard to find in the united states! i'm sure all i need to do is go to john derian, but in terms of ordering one online, they are hard to find.

here is what i found: irving and morrison is the mothership of pleated lampshades, and although they are based in the uk, they will ship internationally. oka has great options, and they have a us website. lamps plus has boring plain ones.

thoughts? are you into them also, or do you find them too granny?

five podcasts you would like

my not-so-secret obsession with podcasts is growing. my life is like the perfect storm for such an obsession, since i a) commute on the train to and from work everyday b) don't have enough space on my phone for more than ten songs in itunes and i'm sick of all of them, and c) enjoy multitasking.

who's the "you" in the title of this blog you might be asking? "is she talking about me? she doesn't even know me. what a presumptuous lady." except for i probably do know you. you're most likely my mom or my friend laura. and if you're not, well, welcome! and how did you get here? do you like podcasts?

anyways, i've been listening to a few amazing new ones while i not-so-patiently wait for season two of serial.

1. StartUp - one man's journey of starting his own podcast network told from the very beginning. my favorite episode - all of them. but, i particularly enjoyed How To Name Your Company

2. Detective - a retired detective with an intense "old fashioned man" voice speaks about what he's seen during his 23 years on the field. my favorite episode (and only one so far) - Murder in the First

3. Mystery Show - frivolous mysteries that are fun, cheerful, and surprisingly gripping. my favorite episodeCase #1 Video Store

4. How To Be Amazing with Michael Ian Black - my obscure and hilarious celebrity crush interviews really cool people.  my favorite episode Tavi Gevinson

5. Thinking Sideways - very entertaining investigations on unanswered questions. my favorite episodeKubrick's The Shining

although i paint the majority of the artwork in my own house, i am on the lookout for some cool pieces for my bedroom by someone other than myself. while on said lookout, i discovered that Serena & Lily has really fantastic original artwork. i've shared a few of my favorites above, but really, they have way too many to really narrow it down! anywho, i could have kept going, but i'm hungry for dinner and taco salad isn't going to make itself. so this is what you get!

latest podcast addiction

yikes - april came and went huh? i haven't finished just kids, so i guess my april book became my may book. my excuse is my discovery of the podcast design matters with debbie millman. it's been around for ten years, which makes me wish i had an awareness of podcasts ten years ago when i was graduating high school. better late than never, i suppose. i've gobbled up as many as i've been able to squeeze into my commute over the past few days. in each episode, debbie interviews a creative and digs deep into their past to find how they reached the place they are in today. since it's been around for a decade, "today" is oftentimes 2007. but no matter, they are each inspiring and soothing and wonderful. here are my five favorites so far:

-jessica walsh + timothy goodman (on their online diary of dating for forty days as a social experiment)
-isaac mizrahi (on life. that man is my hero. i met him in real life once and i had a really difficult time playing it cool. i was helping him at work, and after he left, i asked another client who was nearby if i seemed normal, and he said, "well, you were a lot nicer to him than you are to me." eep.)
-elle luna (on her book the crossroads of should and must: find and follow your passion. life changing!)
-julia turshen (on her culinary yellow brick road. i knew of her before as the wife of grace bonney - i had goosebumps when she spoke about the food served at their wedding. and tummy rumblings.)
-liz danzico (you just need to listen to it. the last ten minutes are brilliant.)

etsy shop love

since i'll be decorating a new apartment soon, i've been scouring etsy for cool finds. this is my mantra for our new place: intentional, happy, inspiring, peaceful. i would love if any new things could be from a small shop or craigslist. and i'm dreaming of a rug from Frances Loom. but for the purpose of this post, here are some interesting items from my bff etsy.com!

grown up posters

aren't all these posters so cool? i stumbled on the poster club through pinterest (what else...) and i fell in love with so many! i think they would be great for a gallery wall, or for one single piece that needs to pack a punch. and the best part is, they are aren't super expensive...unless i am terribly converting euros into dollars. so, actually, don't hold me to that.

etsy shop love

i really love etsy. over the years, i have sold handmade jewelry and original watercolors and collages under a few different shop names. i still have a few listings, and have gotten quite a few requests from a watercolor of a fiddle leaf fig tree i sold last year. i love seeing that painting get pinned! anyways, aside from my own endeavors, i love finding new shops and sharing them with others. in a sea of options, it's hard to find the ones you are really looking for! i would like to do these posts more often - to spread the love and to help me remember! here we go...
